Residents of Bovey Tracey and Heathfield are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves and take part in a community environment day on Saturday, November 1, starting at 10.30am in Mill Marsh Park, next to the play park.

The event will see volunteers planting hundreds of native daffodil bulbs and clearing litter from Mill Marsh Park and the surrounding area, helping to brighten the town in time for spring while keeping it clean and welcoming for everyone.

All equipment will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own gloves, trowels, or litter pickers.

No advance registration is needed, simply turn up on the day and join in.

Volunteers are advised to wear suitable footwear (as some planting will take place on a bank) and to bring rainwear if needed.

“Hopefully the weather will be kind and we’ll enjoy a great morning investing in our town’s environment,” said Mayor Cllr Sheila Brooke.

“Join us in the park where you’ll be guaranteed a warm welcome and a great sense of achievement at the end of the day. People of all ages can take part, we just ask that children are supervised by an adult. I’m really looking forward to it!’

The event is supported by Friends of Mill Marsh Park, a small, informal community group that organises regular activities throughout the year to help maintain and improve the park. Anyone who uses the park is welcome to join.

Bovey Tracey continues to benefit from the dedication of its volunteers, whose hard work helps keep the town looking its best.

From litter picking and planting bulbs to preparing for South West in Bloom, their efforts are making Bovey Tracey a greener and more vibrant place to live.

“Our volunteers are the heart of Bovey Tracey. Every small act, from planting a bulb to picking up litter, adds up to something truly special. Together, we’re building a town we can all be proud of.” said Mayor Brooke

Anyone wishing to get involved in future projects will find plenty of opportunities, from gardening and event organisation to climate initiatives and community clean-ups, every little helps make Bovey Tracey an even better place to live.
