Buckland Abbey is set to celebrate the autumn season starting this weekend with harvest-themed fun and family activities over the October half-term.
The National Trust site near Yelverton will host its Harvest Weekend tomorrow (Saturday 25) and Sunday (26 October), featuring a striking display of pumpkins and squashes in the Great Barn, autumn games on the lawn, and traditional cooking demonstrations.
The garden team has grown 50 per cent more pumpkins than last year, creating a colourful centrepiece for the celebration.

The display includes hay bales from the estate and a hand-crafted “Scare Horse” made by volunteers.
Sam Brown, Head Gardener at Buckland Abbey said:
“The weather this year has created the perfect conditions for growing pumpkins and squash
“A wet June followed by sunny weather has meant we’ve grown 50% more than last year.
“Buckland Abbey has always been a working estate, and this weekend is a real celebration of everything the land gives us.”

Families can also take part in games such as sack races and apple-and-spoon races, or make their own leaf bunting to take home.
Inside the Abbey, historic cooks will return to the Tudor Kitchen on 31 October and 2 November, giving visitors a taste of traditional seasonal recipes.
For younger visitors, the popular “Piskies vs Trolls” family trail runs from 19 October to 2 November, inviting children to choose a side and help their team win through games and challenges around the estate.
“We can’t wait to welcome visitors to Buckland Abbey this October half-term,” said Eleanor Hopkinson, Visitor Operations and Experience Manager.
“The harvest display is looking incredible, and we’re encouraging everyone to get involved in the fun, costumes are very much encouraged!”
The Harvest Weekend runs from 10am to 5pm on both days and all activities are included with standard admission, which is free for National Trust members.
