Residents are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves and join a community planting day at Mill Marsh Park next Saturday (November 1) where hundreds of native daffodil bulbs will be planted to brighten the area in spring.

The event, which begins at 10.30am, will also include a community litter pick, with all equipment provided.

Participants who have their own gloves or litter-picking tools are welcome to bring them along.

Mayor Cllr Sheila Brooke said she’s looking forward to a lively morning of community spirit and environmental care.

“Hopefully the weather will be kind and we’ll enjoy a great morning investing in our town’s environment.

“Join us in the park where you’ll be guaranteed a warm welcome and a great sense of achievement at the end of the day. People of all ages can take part, we just ask that children be supervised by an adult.”

The event is being organised by Friends of Mill Marsh Park, a Bovey Tracey Town Council residents’ group, with the aim of improving local green spaces and encouraging residents to take pride in their surroundings.

Volunteers are asked to meet by the children’s Play Park in Mill Marsh Park, and the session is expected to last for approximately two hours.

There’s no need to register in advance, everyone is welcome to simply turn up on the day.

Attendees are advised to wear suitable footwear and, if possible, bring gloves and a small fork or trowel.

The event follows several other recent developments at Mill Marsh Park, recently reported by The Moorlander.

Plans were announced earlier this month for a £60,000 fitness boost to replace the park’s ageing outdoor gym, with construction expected to begin later this year.

In addition, a £10,000 grant proposal could help replace and extend Bovey Tracey’s broken CCTV system, including coverage for Mill Marsh Park.

This daffodil planting day also continues the park’s growing reputation as a hub for community activity, part of a wider series of initiatives encouraging residents to take part in local environmental projects.

Whether you’re an avid gardener, a family looking for a fun outdoor activity, or simply keen to lend a hand, the morning promises to be a rewarding way to make a visible difference to the local environment.
