The warning is in place from 12pm on Tuesday (11 Nov) and will see strong wind and rain hit Devon Credit- Met Office
A yellow weather warning has been issued for South West England, signalling challenging travel ahead, with strong southerly winds and persistent rainfall likely to slow journeys and raise the risk of disruption.
According to the Met Office, the warning covers Tuesday (11 November) from 12pm to 11.59pm, with “heavy rain accompanied by strong southerly winds expected, giving difficult driving conditions and producing flooding in places.”
Forecasters say that spray and standing water on roads are expected to become widespread, increasing the risk of accidents, especially during the evening commute.

The Met Office advises that “spray and flooding on roads will probably make journey times longer,” and that “public transport including bus and train services will probably be affected.”
Rainfall totals of 20-40mm are likely fairly widely, with 50-70mm in the wettest spots, “most likely but not exclusively on the south-facing slopes of the moors.”
The warning notes that rain may continue into Wednesday, and that it may be extended or replaced with a fresh warning “should confidence in a wetter scenario increase.”
The saturated ground is expected to add to the difficulties, and the Met Office states that “flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible,” especially given recent wet weather.
Motorists have been advised to take extra care, with the Met Office saying that “difficult driving conditions are likely for the evening commute in particular, with delays due to slow traffic and the increased possibility of accidents.”
Travel-time delays are expected to mount, as slower speeds and extra caution become widespread.
Drivers in rural areas and on moorland roads should be especially vigilant, where the combination of wind-driven rain and run-off from slopes can lead to standing water causing delays and occasional localised flooding.
The warning is in force for Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth, and Somerset, and was issued at 10:29 (UTC) on Monday 10 November 2025.
The Met Office emphasises that people should “be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly.”
For those planning journeys this evening, the Met Office recommends checking travel and road conditions in advance and amending plans where necessary.
It also advises households in at-risk areas to consider flood preparedness, including flood plans and emergency kits, and notes that being ready for possible power cuts can make a significant difference.
As the warning takes effect, the message is clear: prepare for a tricky evening travel window and expect slower journeys, especially on the roads and rails across the region.
