Bus passengers across Devon will soon see major changes to fares and new travel zones introduced from early next year.
Stagecoach South West has announced that it will introduce a new, standardised system across Greater Exeter, Plymouth, North Devon and Torbay from 4 January 2026.

The company says the new structure is designed to make bus travel easier to understand and better value, especially for people who regularly travel between towns and villages around Dartmoor and the wider region.
10-mile zones around key Devon towns
Each travel zone will now use a simple 10-mile radius from the main town or city centre.
For Dartmoor-area bus users, this includes:
Greater Exeter Zone - covering places such as Crediton, Bickleigh, Crockernwell, Barnstaple Cross, West Hill, Greendale, Finlake Holiday Park, Ide, Ideford, and areas as far as Dawlish and Exeter Airport.

Plymouth Zone - reaching Horrabridge, Yelverton, Ivybridge, Lee Mill, St Mellion, Torpoint, and parts of the A38 corridor.

Torbay Zone - including Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Dawlish, Brixham, Totnes, Dartmouth, South Devon College and nearby rural stops.

North Devon Zone - covering Barnstaple, Bideford, Appledore, Croyde, Ilfracombe, Coombe Martin, South Molton and surrounding routes.

Stagecoach says the new boundaries will help people who previously lived just outside a zone edge, giving them access to the same unlimited travel options as nearby residents.
Aligned prices across all zones
Ticket prices will now be the same across the four zones, with a standard adult day ticket costing £6.50, and child tickets at £4.30.
Seven-day, 28-day and term tickets are also being aligned across the region.
A separate South West Zone will continue to cover the whole Stagecoach network, allowing wider travel for £10 a day or £40 for seven days.
Longer-term savings
Stagecoach says new multibuy day tickets available through the Stagecoach app will give discounts of up to 30%, depending on how often passengers travel.
Peter Knight, Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, said:
“By making travelling by bus simpler and more consistent across the South West, we’re providing easier to understand fares together with better value for money.
With an easy-to-use journey planner, customers will never pay more than they need.”
Impact on Dartmoor communities
Many Dartmoor villages rely heavily on bus links for access to Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay.
The new system means places such as Yelverton, Ivybridge, Crockernwell, Crediton and Ide will have clearly defined zone pricing that matches other parts of Devon.
Updated maps for each zone have been published (and can be seen above) to help passengers see whether their homes, workplaces or schools fall inside the 10-mile boundaries, with fare changes coming into effect from 4 January 2026.
