A crew from Bovey Tracey Fire Station was sent to the scene.

In a statement, the service said firefighters arrived to find the car half submerged, with both occupants standing on the roof.

“Crews used wading poles and wading suits to get to the vehicle and give both the driver and passenger life jackets before escorting them to safety, neither person required medical treatment” a spokesperson said.

In their post, they said:

“Upon arrival, 2 occupants were on the roof of the vehicle. A team was committed into the water using wading poles and wading suits to initiate a rescue. Once the driver and passenger were given life jackets and blankets, they were escorted out of the water to a place of safety.”

The station also warned the public about ongoing severe weather impacts from Storm Bram.

“Our local area is feeling the effects of Storm Bram and danger-to-life warnings are still in place. Check the Met Office for updates and do not risk travel unless absolutely necessary,” they said.

Flooding has affected multiple parts of Devon today, with emergency services urging people not to drive through deep water.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is directing residents to further advice on staying safe during severe weather.
