Plymouth roadworks update as major routes in the city face closures and delays

Drivers in Plymouth are being warned of widespread roadworks across the city over the coming week, with multiple road closures, temporary traffic lights and night-time works planned.

According to Plymouth City Council, the works will take place between Saturday 10 January and Saturday 17 January, affecting roads in the city centre, residential areas and key routes in and out of Plymouth.

Several roads will be fully closed, including parts of New George Street, Royal Parade, Sturdee Road, Fisher Road, Ganges Road, Priory Road and Whittington Street, with diversions in place where required.

Gas main replacement works by Wales and West Utilities will continue on St Levan Road, Fisher Road, Ganges Road and Sturdee Road, with rolling traffic signals and closures expected to cause delays. These works are scheduled to last until late February in some areas.

Night-time lane closures are planned on major routes including Mannamead Road, Mutley Plain, Outland Road and Royal Parade, mainly for cable recovery, drainage and bus improvement works. These will usually run between 7pm and 6am.

Daytime road closures for resurfacing and patching works will affect a number of residential streets, including Dunstone View, Woodside, Bellingham Crescent, Holland Road, Pounds Park Road, Ridge Park and Chaddlewood Avenue.

Other works include drainage inspections, street lighting repairs, vegetation clearance and tree works, with temporary traffic lights expected in areas such as Dean Hill, Wembury Road, Torridge Way and Goodwin Avenue.

Plymouth City Council has advised motorists to allow extra time for journeys, follow diversion signs where in place and check bus timetables, as some routes may be affected.
