New plans have been announced to replace a busy junction near Bovey Tracey with a roundabout.

At a Full Council meeting this week, Bovey Tracey Town Council heard from Devon County Councillor Sally Morgan-Thomas about proposed changes at the junction of Clay Lane and the B3193 at Rixey Park.

Councillor Morgan-Thomas said the current temporary traffic lights at the junction have been vandalised, with battery packs stolen.

She told councillors the junction will now be replaced with a roundabout.

Cllr Morgan-Thomas said Devon County Council is intending to begin work soon and added: “They’re hoping this will allow the traffic to flow better.”

Councillors were also told that changes to the A382 road towards Newton Abbot are “ahead of schedule”.

The announcement has prompted mixed reactions from local residents on social media.

Some have welcomed the plans, saying the temporary traffic lights have caused long queues at busy times.

One resident said the lights had led to “very long queues at peak times”, particularly for traffic heading towards Kingsteignton.

Others have raised concerns about further disruption while other roadworks are ongoing in the area.

Several residents questioned whether a roundabout would improve traffic flow during morning and evening rush hours, with some warning it could lead to congestion at busy times.

No start date or timescale for the roundabout works has yet been confirmed, and it is not believed to be a temporary measure.

Bovey Tracey Town Council said it will provide updates as more information becomes available.
