Police are appealing for help to identify a man seen on CCTV following a fatal crash on a rural road between Ashburton and Buckfastleigh.

The collision happened at around 1.10am on Monday, January 26, on an unnamed road near Strawberry Fields Farm Shop, close to Buckfastleigh.

It involved a single vehicle, a green Subaru Legacy Outback.

The incident was reported to police the following afternoon after the car was found in a field next to the road.

The driver, a local man in his 30s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

As part of ongoing enquiries, officers have released CCTV images of a man seen in the area shortly after the collision.

Police believe he may have witnessed or heard the crash, or seen the vehicle shortly beforehand.

Although the man’s face is not clearly visible, officers say they hope someone may recognise him by his clothing, or that he may come forward himself.

A police spokesperson said the man “could hold important information that may help officers understand what happened in the moments around the collision”.

Anyone who recognises the man, or who has information that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact police on 101 or via the Devon and Cornwall Police website, quoting log 555 of 27 January.
