Police say the cordon remains in place, with a number of nearby properties evacuated while emergency services continue their work.
Officers carried out a warrant at a property in College Avenue this morning (Tuesday 17 February).
A 26-year-old white British man, who was arrested earlier today, remains in police custody.
During searches at the address, officers located further items requiring specialist review.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team is in attendance to carry out expert analysis.
Police said the cordon has been established for public safety and to allow suitable access for emergency services at the scene.
“There are a number of road closures in place and officers are knocking on the doors of all properties within the cordon” police said.
At this time, police say there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public and the incident is not thought to be terrorism-related.
Officers added: “We are unable to say how long the cordon will remain in place for, but we will update the public when we have further information”.
