The event was attended by Plymouth City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, Councillor Mary Aspinall.

Plymouth Hospitals Charity supports services across the city’s hospitals by funding medical equipment, research, staff training and improvements to facilities for patients and NHS staff.

The charity also provides additional comforts for patients and helps support projects aimed at improving care across the local health service.

Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative distributes around £700,000 each year to charities and community organisations across the UK.

Recent local recipients have included Plymouth Argyle Community Foundation, The Box museum, PEM Disability Children’s Club, St Luke’s Hospice and Argyle Pride.

The developer currently has housing developments in Plymouth, including Palmerston Heights near Derriford Hospital and Saltram Meadows in Plymstock.

Jane Cartwright, sales director for Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon, said the company was pleased to support the charity through the scheme.

“Through our Community Champions scheme, Persimmon Homes proudly supports organisations like Plymouth Hospitals Charity, recognising their invaluable role in providing support to the local hospitals in the city,” she said.

“As we continue to build developments like Palmerston Heights and Saltram Meadows, we hope to demonstrate our commitment to fostering a culture of giving back as part of our mission to leave a positive and lasting legacy in the areas in which we build.”

Jamie Lee, fundraising manager at Plymouth Hospitals Charity, thanked the company for the donation.

“We would like to sincerely thank the Persimmon team for this wonderful donation to our hospitals, helping us to do even more to support patients and our amazing NHS staff across the city,” they said.

Councillor Mary Aspinall also welcomed the contribution:

“On behalf of the council, I want to thank Persimmon Homes for this generous donation to Plymouth Hospitals Charity,” she said.

“Our NHS teams work incredibly hard every single day and support like this helps ensure they have the equipment, training and facilities they need to continue delivering outstanding care for our community.”
