A housebuilder operating in the South West has donated £1,500 to a Devon-based charity supporting young people at risk of cardiac conditions.

Barratt Bristol made the donation to Jay’s Aim through its community chest fund.

The charity, based in Newton Abbot, works to raise awareness of heart conditions in young people and fund screenings to help identify issues that may otherwise go undetected.

Jay’s Aim also provides free CPR and defibrillator training to schools and community groups, and installs public access defibrillators across Devon.

Dan Osborne, chief executive of Jay’s Aim, said the funding would support the charity’s ongoing work.

He said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Barratt Bristol for their generous donation of £1,500, which has been hugely appreciated by the whole charity.

“Donations such as this allow us to continue our vital work of attempting to reduce the number of young people who die of sudden cardiac arrest in SW England.

“We will ensure that the donation is put to good use on one of the three core areas of our work: providing community public access defibrillators, CPR/defibrillator training or funding cardiac screenings. Thank you, Barratt Bristol.”

The housebuilder said the contribution was part of its wider programme supporting local organisations.

Richard Lawson, sales director for Barratt Bristol, said: “At Barratt Bristol, we are committed to giving back to the local community and we are proud to be supporting Jay’s Aim with this donation.

“Jay’s Aim provides an invaluable service to the local community; their commitment to spreading awareness and saving lives is truly inspiring, and we hope our donation helps the charity continue to deliver the exceptional work they do for young people across the region.”

Since launching in 2021, the company’s community chest fund has supported charities and community groups across the UK, with a focus on helping children, young people and disadvantaged groups.

Jay’s Aim continues to run training sessions and fund equipment aimed at improving survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest in the South West.
