New Bovey Tracey town trail invites visitors to explore craft and heritage
A new month-long trail is set to launch in Bovey Tracey, linking independent businesses, contemporary craft makers and historic town centre buildings as part of a celebration of the town’s creative and cultural heritage
A new town trail is set to launch in Bovey Tracey this June, offering visitors a way to explore the town through a mix of contemporary craft and local heritage.
Running from this Monday, June 1, until Monday, June 29, the Craft Festival Bovey Tracey Town Trail will connect independent shops and venues across the town with work from selected makers linked to MAKE Southwest, alongside stories about the buildings they occupy.
The trail has been developed in partnership with Bovey for Business and Craft Festival and will run alongside this year’s Craft Festival, which takes place at Mill Marsh Park from 12-14 June.
Organisers say the project is designed to encourage visitors to explore beyond the main festival site and engage with the wider town centre.
Each participating venue will showcase the work of a maker, alongside information about its own history, with the aim of highlighting Bovey Tracey’s identity as a centre for craft, trade and local industry.
Venues taking part include The Cheese Shed, MAKE Southwest, Clive Parker Optician, Bovey Larder, Grace and Favour Home, Pom Stitch Tassel and Bovey Tracey Information Centre.
Maps for the trail will be available from participating locations.
Sarah James, director of Craft Festival, said the trail builds on the town’s wider creative identity.
She said: “The Craft Festival Trail gives us the opportunity to showcase great makers from MAKE Southwest whilst also highlighting the history of our high street and the fantastic retailers that we have in the town.”
She added that the initiative aims to encourage visitors to spend time in the town and discover its independent businesses.
