Jaydn Crosbie signs for Torquay
Torquay United growing an exciting young squad under Wotton
If there was a race for the busiest Devon club over the summer ‘break’, Torquay United would be streets ahead of their closest rivals.
Even with the huge excitement surrounding the appointment of football legend Wayne Rooney as the new boss of Plymouth Argyle, the Gulls are capturing the attention with a flurry of arrivals, departures and a packed pre-season schedule under the new regime.
Just a few days after the Bryn Consortium completed their Plainmoor takeover, new manager Paul Wotton has issued a ruthless retained list that will see 14 players leaving United, added Argyle to the pre-season fixtures and now two more new recruits.
Rooney and his Pilgrims will visit Plainmoor on Saturday, July 27 and waiting for them will be goalkeeper James Hamon and young striker Jaydn Crosbie, both of whom joined the Wotton revolution on Wednesday.
Crosbie, 20, arrives from Hellenic League club Mangotsfield, where the young forward struck an incredible 37 goals from 48 appearances last season, putting him on the radar of a number of top clubs.
Having won that race, Wotton also moved to add some experience to his rearguard with the acquisition of former Exeter City goalkeeper James Hamon, who worked with the new United boss at Truro City. Hamon, 28, also enjoyed a brief loan spell with the Gulls in 2021.
