The sporting stars of South Dartmoor College

The amazing Euro 2024 story of Ollie Watkins shone a light on Devon sport, and South Dartmoor College in particular.

The Ashburton school helped to nurture the talents of Watkins, who famously scored the winning goal for England in the semi-final against Netherlands. He also featured in the final but was unable to prevent a dominant Spain from outclassing England.

Incredibly, Watkins is not the only sporting star from South Dartmoor College, as his contemporary at the school, Bryony Frost, is a decorated jockey now plying her trade in France.

Bryony’s dad Jimmy famously won the Grand National in 1989 and he told us the story of Bryony and Ollie’s link: “Bryony remembers from school and particular his ability at football, as well as being a really nice lad.

“Bryony was actually the first member of the Frost family to win a sports medal for something other than equine. She loved playing football at school and obviously brilliant to see Ollie do so well.”
