Pilgrims defeat Blackburn Rovers with last-gasp header

It was an afternoon packed full of drama at Home Park and a thrilling finish saw the Pilgrims defeat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in the Sky Bet Championship.

After going down to a 1-0 defeat at Burnley in midweek, the Greens were clearly happy to be back on the home track, deservedly taking the lead with an emphatic finish from Michael Obafemi on 15 minutes.

Argyle were in sight of the winning line when Blackburn levelled through Joe Rankin-Costello, a goal that left Head Coach Wayne Rooney incensed, as he felt there was a foul in the build-up. Rooney’s protests led to referee James Linington producing a red card for the former England captain.

Despite being in the dressing room, Rooney would have heard the roars of delight from another Home Park sell-out, as Morgan Whittaker stooped to head a thrilling winner for Argyle deep into stoppage time.
