The social highlight of the Devon motorsport calendar, the Wiscombe Park Awards Evening, was held recently at the home of the Chichester family, Wiscombe House. Speed hillclimb events have been held on the Wiscombe estate since 1958.
The awards were presented to the winning drivers by Sara Raynor, a Director of Wiscombe Ltd. The main award of the evening, The Mike Potter Trophy, was presented to Ian Ingleheart, the Wiscombe Tillicoultry Quarries Champion.
Ian, a member of Plymouth Motor Club, winning the trophy for a record sixth time. This establishes him as one of the fastest drivers in the South West.
This year, the Wiscombe Championship was decided at the final round, the MG Car Club event, when Ian won the title by setting a new Class Record - 39.64s - pipping Julian Rinaldi at the post into second place. Accepting The Eric Moxom Memorial Trophy on behalf of Julian was his daughter Amelia.
Last year’s Wiscombe Champion, Paul Reynolds, finished third this year. Fourth place was claimed by the 2016 Champion, Anthony Wright. In fifth place was Andrew Phillips who was unable to attend the Awards Evening. The 2023 and 2024 Association of South Western Motor Clubs’ Hillclimb Champion, Ed Hollier, took sixth place.
The fastest man on two wheels this year has been Tom Short on his KTM SMR. He set a new Wiscombe Outright Bike Record – 39.93s - at the final event of the year, the Arnold Gimblett. Tom was presented with The Sir Nicholas Williamson Trophy.
Plymouth MC member Luca Bond was named the Wiscombe Young Driver of the Year and he was awarded the Ron Wilson Memorial Trophy. Luca has achieved some great results this season in his MG ZR and is a rising star of the sport.
The award for the “Wiscombe Park Event of the Year” was awarded to Woolbridge MC for the record-breaking British Championship weekend in July. Woolbridge Chairman, Sarah Forsyth, accepted the award on behalf of the Club.
It has been a memorable year of speed and records at Wiscombe Park – as well as many new regional and national records, there has also been new outright records set, including Matt Ryder (Outright Record – 31.77s), Olivia Cooper (Ladies Record – 36.49s) and Tom Short (Outright motorbike Record).
