Cribbs FC hosted Tavistock
Tavistock pinch vital point in the Southern League
Tavistock had to wait until the dying seconds of a tight Boxing Day clash with Cribbs before earning a deserved 1-1 draw in the Division One South of the Southern League.
The Lambs toiled for long periods against a defensively sound host and fell behind to a goal from Ryan Cainey midway through the first period. Defeat seemed inevitable until Joel Jackson popped up in the fifth minute of stoppage time to pinch a point.
The draw keeps Tavi out of the relegation zone on goal difference and they face a big game at Langsford Park tomorrow, when the side one place below them in the table, Falmouth Town, are the visitors.
It was an unhappy Christmas for two Devon clubs in the Southern League Premier, as Tiverton Town and Plymouth Parkway both remain in the relegation zone after heavy defeats on Boxing Day.
Parkway’s 5-0 loss at Frome Town was particularly painful, with their hosts also in the bottom four, while Tiverton had no answer in a 3-0 home defeat to Taunton Town.
Ivybridge Town suffered a 5-1 defeat at Brixham in the Jewson Western League. The Ivies led through a Jacob Smelt free-kick but could not hold back the resurgent Fishermen, who showed why they have been near the top all season.
