All smiles for Tavistock AFC
Massive win for Tavistock AFC
A late goal from Tyler Elliott has taken Tavistock to the brink of securing Southern League football at Langsford Park next season.
Welcoming promotion-chasing Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Tavi entered the game knowing that maximum points would open up a healthy cushion above the bottom four and they had a strong penalty shout waved away inside four minutes.
A stinging drive from skipper Ed Harrison kept the visiting custodian honest on the half before the Quins fizzed a strike from distance inches over. A fine run and cross from Jack Crago conjured the best chance of the half but Tom Symons was unable to find the corner with his volley.
After the break, chances continued to flow at either end of the pitch, but the game was seemingly destined for a goalless stalemate.
That all changed with just six minutes left on the clock, when a Crago cross was met by Liam Prynn. The Quins goalkeeper saved the initial effort, but Elliott pounced on the rebound to send the home crowd wild.
Tavi are now nine points above the drop zone with three games to play. Helston Athletic are the only side that can catch them, and they host Tavi this weekend.
