Wiscombe Park ready for a summer on wheels
Wiscombe Park, the award-winning speed hillclimb venue near Honiton, is gearing up for the opening event of the 2025 season on April 26 & 27 - the Woolbridge Spring event.
South West motorsport fans will be able to see the UK’s fastest cars and drivers in action at 12 events arranged over six race weekends through to mid-September.
And whatever your particular interest in motorsport, there will be plenty to keep you entertained. Cars from the earliest days of motoring will be competing in the Vintage Sports-Car Club meeting in May.
In July, Wiscombe Park hosts the British Championships – the highlight of the year. Competitors travel from all over the UK to test their skills on the challenging 1000-yard course and hope to leave with vital points towards the national hillclimb title.
In speed hillclimbing, there are classes for all cars – from standard road going, to highly modified, and single seater racing cars, which are very similar to Formula one cars. And it is not all about cars - at some Wiscombe events, bikes, trikes and sidecars also compete, with the closing event of the season reserved exclusively for two and three wheeled competition.
Wiscombe Park provides spectators with close access to the course, enabling them to experience the speed and sound of the cars and bikes being pushed to the limit by highly skilled drivers and riders.
There is free admission to the paddock area all day, allowing a close-up look at the cars and bikes and the opportunity to chat to the drivers and riders. It is a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A wide selection of food and refreshments are available. An action-packed family day out and under 16s are admitted free.
The 2024 Wiscombe Park Tillicoultry Quarries Champion, Plymouth motor engineer Ian Ingleheart, begins the defence of his title at the first event driving his very powerful Westfield Se. Ian has won the title a record six times and is also a Class record holder.
The current British Champion, Matt Ryder, will be in action in July. Last year he set a new outright Wiscombe Hill Record in his Gould GR59J – 31.77s - on his way to clinching his first British title.
Ottery St Mary’s Ed Hollier will also start the defence of his Fusion Fostering Association of South Western Motor Clubs title, driving his Force HC in which he set a new Wiscombe Class Record last season.
