Exeter Chiefs overpower Northampton Saints

After a humbling and reflective fortnight for Exeter Chiefs, the club provided their fans, and themselves, a semblance of cheer and pride with a 42-14 defeat of a young Northampton Saints outfit at Sandy Park.

A difficult season for the Chiefs reached a new low when they suffered a humiliating 79-17 demolition at Gloucester at the end of April, and this was their first chance to gain some mild redemption.

Debutant Nick Lilley, Harvey Skinner and Paul Brown-Bampoe all crossed to give Exeter a 21-7 lead at the interval, as both sides looked to blood youngsters on the big stage. The Chiefs maintained control after the break, adding further tries from Skinner, Brown-Bampoe and Martin Moloney to complete a comfortable win.

The Chiefs have two more games to play in their campaign, away to Harlequins on Sunday, May 18 and then at home to Sale on Saturday, May 31.
