Walkhampton cricketer Stanley Baker
Stanley Baker from Walkhampton is set to take a major step on his cricketing journey after being selected for the Devon Under-15 tour to South Africa in October 2026.
A passionate cricketer from an early age, Stanley has lived and breathed the game for as long as he has been able to hold a bat. Whether practising in the garden, playing out on the street, training in the nets or honing his skills on the moors, cricket has always been at the centre of his life.
Stanley has progressed through the ranks at Cornwood Cricket Club, beginning with softball cricket before moving into hardball colts cricket. More recently, he has made the transition into senior cricket, featuring regularly for the adult sides and making a couple of appearances for the club’s First XI in the Premier League last season.
His commitment, talent and desire to improve have been recognised with the award of a scholarship at Plymouth College. There, Stanley is thriving both academically and on the field, benefiting from extensive coaching and regular competitive cricket.
He is now preparing for a full Under-15 season with Devon, which will culminate in the prestigious tour to South Africa later next year. Selection for the tour represents a significant achievement and an invaluable opportunity to gain international experience against strong opposition.
However, the cost of the tour is substantial, and Stanley and his family are seeking support from the local community to help make the trip possible. Any contribution, large or small, would help fund travel, accommodation and associated costs, and would be greatly appreciated.
With dedication, hard work and a clear love for the game, Stanley Baker’s cricketing future looks bright—and the Walkhampton youngster will be hoping to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
