There’s more summer jumping today at Newton Abbot, which hosts a six-race card featuring three races over hurdles, two over fences and concludes with a bumper.
Read on for a preview of and tips for the Newton Abbot card, brought to you by Betway.
We kick off with a mares’ maiden hurdle over two and three quarter miles (2.33). Richenda Ford’s runner, Queens Up, makes her Rules debut having placed in a point-to-point, while at the other end of the spectrum, Dan Skelton’s Laffer Curve is quite well exposed in this context now, having run in handicap company last time. Back into a maiden now, the slight step up in trip could help her.
Next is a novices’ handicap hurdle over the same trip (3.08). Seamus Mullins’ Masonbrook Meadow looks attractive on slightly lower mark than last time, and has a five-pound claimer on her back too. Mickey Bowen’s Green Asset could be handy too, also with a claiming rider on board.
The third race is an extended two mile handicap chase (3.42). Despite having just three runners, this looks a fairly competitive affair. Irish Chorus was a winner last time out and both Siam Park and Raffles Hermes were placed. With Sam Twiston-Davies taking the ride, the latter could be the one to oblige today.
Race four is a three and a quarter mile handicap hurdle (4.17). Dearkeithandkaty and Welcheston Warrier both were second on their latest starts, but both have risen slightly in the handicap since. The latter looks the most likely to go well, though, and the others are hard to make a case for.
Second to last is a handicap chase over two miles and five furlongs (4.52). Another competitive race despite a small field of five, there is lots of promising recent form to get stuck into here. Jonjo and AJ O’Neill’s Soldierofthestorm should outclass them all in the end, though, and can continue the yard’s good recent form.
Finally, we conclude with a bumper (5.22). The two newcomers are Taranis Dubh and Dunhallow Storm. The former makes a start for Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen having won a point-to-point, and is very hot in the betting market, which cannot be ignored.
