An amber heat-health alert has been issued for the South West as Devon prepares for rising temperatures, with the Met Office forecasting a peak of 27C early next week.
The alert is in effect from midday on Friday 27 June until 6pm on Tuesday 1 July. It warns that hot weather may pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mike Silverstone said: "An area of high pressure will be intensifying and dominating the UK forecast. Conditions will be hottest in the south and east while areas further north and northwest will be relatively cooler.”
He added that while some parts of the country will see very warm weather, northern and northwestern areas will remain cooler.

The Met Office advises people to take care during the period of high temperatures. This includes staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, and checking on those who may be more vulnerable to heat.
Friday is expected to see temperatures in the mid-20s in Devon, rising over the weekend and peaking on Monday.
The heat is likely to ease from Tuesday as weather conditions return closer to average for the time of year.
