Plymouth Argyle earn point at Wycombe in entertaining draw

Plymouth Argyle draw at Wycombe in Sky Bet League One
Plymouth Argyle earned their first point of the League One season after battling to an entertaining 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.
After the disappointment of last weekend's home defeat to Stockport County, Tom Cleverley's side showed a positive response on the road and looked on course for victory before the hosts found a late equaliser.
Wycombe threatened first, hitting the crossbar inside the opening 10 minutes.
Good work from Silko Thomas created the opening for Jamie Mullins, who drove forward before unleashing a long-range effort. Argyle goalkeeper Murphy Cooper was equal to it, tipping the ball onto the bar and away for a corner.
The Pilgrims gradually grew into the contest and took the lead after 25 minutes.
Will Evans opened his Argyle account with an excellent finish from inside the penalty area, confidently finding the net with his left foot to give the visitors a deserved advantage.
Evans thought he had doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
Argyle therefore went into the interval with a slender advantage, but Wycombe came out strongly after the restart.
Substitute Cauley Woodrow twice went close to restoring parity in quick succession. His first effort from inside the box was deflected just past the far post before he headed wide from eight yards.
Wycombe then had another goal ruled out for offside when fellow substitute Emre Tezgel turned the ball home after Cooper had spilled a Dan Harvie effort on the hour mark.
Argyle continued to withstand the pressure, but the hosts eventually found a way through with 14 minutes remaining.
A deep free-kick from Ewan Henderson found Connor Taylor at the back post and the Wycombe defender rose to head beyond Cooper and make it 1-1.
The late equaliser denied Argyle what would have been an impressive away victory, but the point represents a positive response from the Pilgrims following the opening-day setback.
