Tavistock Junior Girls win the Devon championships

Tavistock U13 Girls were crowned Devon champions after producing a remarkable one-run victory over Bovey Tracey in a final that went right down to the very last ball.

In a contest packed with twists and turns, Tavistock held their nerve when it mattered most to seal an extraordinary 102–101 victory and bring the Devon title back to Tavistock.

Having won the toss, Tavistock elected to put Bovey Tracey into bat. After a solid opening, the Tavistock bowlers gradually took control, with Willow leading the attack with an impressive three wickets as Bovey were restricted to 101.

That left Tavistock needing 52 runs from 80 balls for victory, and they made a flying start. At the halfway stage, the Tavi girls appeared to be cruising towards the target.

But Bovey Tracey were not prepared to surrender their title hopes.

Three wickets in just four balls suddenly transformed the game, bringing the pressure firmly back onto Tavistock. With the match finely balanced, the final pair of Harriet and Emma came together at the crease.

The pair showed tremendous composure, batting superbly to put Tavistock back in control. Victory appeared within touching distance once again — only for Bovey to launch another late fightback, taking two wickets in the final two overs.

Eight runs were needed from the last over.

The tension was palpable.

And eventually, it all came down to the final delivery.

Emma defended solidly before Harriet spotted the opportunity and scrambled through for the bye.

102–101. A one-run victory. Devon Champions.

For a team that has come so far during the season, it was a fitting and unforgettable way to finish their campaign.

There was also huge praise for beaten finalists Bovey Tracey, whose determination and sportsmanship played a major part in producing such a memorable final.

They battled until the very end and provided a wonderful example of the spirit of girls' cricket — competitive, supportive and played in exactly the right spirit.
