Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the incident, saying officers were responding to a collision on the westbound carriageway and that traffic restrictions remain in place while recovery work is carried out.

A spokesperson for the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee said:
“Due to a traffic incident close to our toll booth plaza there are significant delays westbound (into Cornwall). Emergency services are on site and recovery is anticipated soon. We would encourage drivers to find an alternative route if possible.”

Eyewitnesses caught in the queues described severe congestion. One driver said traffic was “very heavy and moving slowly."

There is currently no confirmed time for the road to fully reopen.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible and allow extra time for journeys.
