Two lanes are closed on the M5 southbound between Taunton and Wellington due to flooding following heavy rainfall overnight.

National Highways said lanes one and two of three are shut between junction 25 for Taunton and junction 26 for Wellington, causing significant disruption for drivers.

There is around three miles of congestion on the approach, with journey times reported to be around 30 minutes longer than usual.

Heavy rain swept across the South West overnight as Storm Chandra moved through the region, prompting the Met Office to issue an amber weather warning for parts of the area.

The warning highlighted the risk of flooding, difficult driving conditions and potential disruption to transport networks.

Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to drive with caution, particularly on affected routes.
