At North Devon Homes, we believe being a landlord means far more than simply providing a roof over someone’s head. It means making sure our customers feel safe, supported and able to live independently in their homes.
That’s why we have introduced a new Person Centred Fire Risk Assessment (PCFRA) procedure which will help strengthen the way we work with customers who may face additional challenges in the event of a fire.
A PCFRA is exactly what it sounds like: a structured conversation between a member of our team and a resident, designed to understand their individual needs and circumstances.
While buildings can be assessed for risks such as fire doors, alarms and communal safety measures, a PCFRA focuses on the person. It helps us understand whether a resident may find it harder to leave their home during an emergency and what support might be needed.
This may include considering mobility issues, sensory impairments such as hearing or sight loss, or cognitive conditions that could affect someone’s ability to respond quickly in a fire situation.
Where needed, this can lead to a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) being put in place, tailored to the individual.
The PCFRA service is aimed primarily at customers living in our Independent Living Communities, where some residents may need extra support. However, it can be requested by any NDH customer who feels they may benefit.
We want our residents to know that we are here to help and that we will always take concerns seriously.
Taking part in a PCFRA is completely voluntary, and we will always seek consent before sharing any information with emergency services.
Our goal is simple. We want to help customers feel safer, more confident, and more supported in their own homes.
By introducing this new procedure, we are taking another step forward in delivering the kind of service our communities deserve — safe, modern, responsive and centred around the people who live in our homes.
