Buckfastleigh cinema brings Rocky Horror glamour to Dartmoor with special Halloween tribute

A special screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will bring a touch of old-school Hollywood glamour to Buckfastleigh this Halloween
The Cosy Cinema in Buckfastleigh is ‘ramping up the glamour’ for a special Halloween screening of cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show (12A).
The event, taking place at Buckfastleigh Town Hall tomorrow evening (Saturday, October 31), will celebrate the film with an evening of dressing up, audience participation and a tribute to actor Tim Curry, who died in August.
The film has a long tradition of audience members dressing as their favourite characters and joining in with the action on screen.
Organisers are encouraging people to get involved, although fancy dress and participation are entirely optional.
Volunteer Paul Georgiades, a long-time fan of the film and Mayor of Buckfastleigh, is helping organise the event.
“This was a career-defining film for Tim Curry and it seems appropriate that we should show it on the first Halloween after his death,” he said.
“It’s one of those movies where there is as much fun being in the audience as there is in the film. We hope that people will relish that side of it.
“However, if that is not your sort of thing you’re welcome to enjoy the film as you feel most comfortable. That is what the Cosy Cinema is all about.”

The screening comes as the volunteer-run cinema prepares for its second season, with a programme intended to offer something for all ages and tastes.
Volunteer coordinator Steven Burch said the team wanted to build on the cinema’s welcoming atmosphere while introducing a wider range of films and special events.
The programme will include familiar titles, award-winning films, classics and themed screenings.
Cosy Cinema is also planning its first film festival, The Big Film Weekend, in February.
Volunteer Alison Knowling said The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a good example of the kind of film the cinema wanted to bring to its audience.
“It is an old film which people have heard about but which they may not have actually seen before, or never watched on the big screen, which is where it was made to be viewed,” she said.
“We hope that fans will come from far and wide for the experience.”
Doors at Buckfastleigh Town Hall open at 7.15pm, with the film starting at 8pm.
There will also be a Rocky Horror quiz, with a prize.
Tickets cost £6.50 for general admission, £5 for concessions and £4 for children aged 12-16.
They are available through Eventbrite or from the Cosy Cinema's Facebook page.
Tickets may also be available at the box office on the night, subject to availability.
