The historic pub, which dates back to medieval times, has been barred and shuttered making the town centre look unloved. Steve Ticknell and Geoff Cawse have exchanged contracts and they hope to complete the sale and begin the work on the 12th of December.

The plan is to reopen The Plume of Feathers on the 27th January next year and start serving food by the end of February, but before that the pub needs new floors, rewiring, plastering and a new kitchen. Geoff Cawse said: “We are very excited and very pleased, and the community seems to be coming around and backing us enormously.

“We have had builders, plasterers and electricians come forward and offer their services, a lot of them for free. It has been such an eyesore for so long people just want to see it resurrected.” Apart from a wide range of local beers the plan is convert the public bar into a pizzeria with their own pizza oven.
