The annual Devon Building Control Partnership awards have highlighted construction projects across South Hams, Teignbridge and West Devon

Construction projects across South Devon and West Devon have been recognised at an annual awards ceremony, with six winners now set to compete at a national event in London.

The Devon Building Control Partnership (DBCP) held its sixth annual Building Excellence Awards at the Exeter Court Hotel on Thursday, September 24.

Nearly 100 architects, builders, developers and other construction professionals attended.

The awards recognise projects across the South Hams, Teignbridge and West Devon, with judges assessing entries on building regulations, accessibility, sustainability, energy efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Residential, commercial and community projects, were covered at the event, as well as recognising the work of individual designers, builders, site managers and other construction professionals.

Nigel Hunt, head of DBCP, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many people to our sixth annual in-person Awards.

“These awards have highlighted, yet again, the exceptional quality of construction projects being undertaken within the three districts.”

He added that the results also reflected the partnership’s “excellent customer focussed approach” and its work with clients to achieve high standards of construction.

The DBCP provides building control services for South Hams District Council, Teignbridge District Council and West Devon Borough Council.

Cllr David Hancock, South Hams District Council’s executive member for planning, development management and strategic planning, said the awards recognised the work involved in creating buildings and places across the district.

He said: “It is fantastic to see local projects and professionals recognised and especially pleasing that several will now represent the area at the national finals. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Cllr Caroline Mott, West Devon Borough Council’s lead member for planning and the built environment, said the standard of entries demonstrated the expertise across the partnership area.

“Good building work makes a lasting difference to the people who use these homes, businesses and community spaces,” she said.

Six winners from the DBCP area have progressed to the LABC Grand Finals, which will take place in London in January 2027.

They will compete against projects and professionals from across England and Wales.

The awards were presented by Anna Thompson, head of engagement at Local Authority Building Control (LABC), and Mr Hunt.
