MP praises local efforts

New play park opens in Crapstone

MP Rebecca Smith helps open the new park

A brand new play park has opened in the village of Crapstone, situated on the west side of the Moors.

The park’s opening on Saturday, 26 October, was attended by Rebecca Smith MP, bringing excitement to the community just over a mile from Yelverton.

The new play park is the result of planning by local parish councillors, who have been working on the project since 2017.

With the support of the community, they successfully raised around £60,000, including a £20,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.

This facility represents a significant improvement over the previous soggy play area, which had become uninviting and failed to attract new families to the village.

The revamped park features a climbing frame, swings, a slide, and benches, all of which have been warmly welcomed by children, parents, and grandparents alike.

Rebecca Smith, Member of Parliament for South West Devon, expressed her delight at the park’s opening, stating: “I was delighted to attend the opening of Crapstone’s new play park and see children already making full use of the equipment.

“Cllr Susan Woollacott and Buckland Monachorum Parish Council deserve huge praise for getting the play park, with the support of the National Lottery and local donations, over the line. This excellent new amenity will provide outdoor fun for young families  in the village long into the future.”

The new play park is set to become a great gathering spot for families and visitors to Crapstone.
