Visitors to this year’s Devon County Show are in for an adorable surprise with the launch of the show’s first-ever Alpaca Café—a one-of-a-kind experience where guests can sip a drink, snap a selfie, and feed a carrot to one of four furry friends.
Set to take place in the Alpaca Ring on all three days of the show, Thursday 15th to Saturday 17th May 2025, this unique pop-up café will give visitors the chance to relax alongside a quartet of charismatic alpacas: Ron, Hagrid, Sirius and Alby, all from Lakemoor Alpacas. The ring will transform into an intimate café space at 11am and 3pm daily, seating up to 24 pre-booked guests per session.
While cat cafés have become commonplace in urban areas and goat yoga continues to trend, Alpaca Cafés remain a novelty in the UK, despite growing popularity across Europe. This makes Devon County Show the first major agricultural event in the country to introduce such a feature.
Mark Norman, owner of Lakemoor Alpacas, is spearheading the initiative and couldn’t be more excited:
“We love coming to the Devon County Show each year with our alpacas, but this time, we wanted to try something different. Alpaca Cafés have taken off across Europe, but in the UK, they’re still a fresh new idea. This is a perfect chance to see how it goes! Hagrid, in particular, will do just about anything for a carrot!”
Alpaca enthusiasts will have the chance to feed the animals nuts and carrots, enjoy their company in a calm, relaxed setting, and take plenty of alpaca selfies. With limited spots per session and free entry, organisers expect high demand. Guests are encouraged to pre-book and make a £2 suggested donation in aid of the show's charity of the year, Pete’s Dragons, which supports families affected by suicide.
Lisa Moore, Show Manager, said the café reflects the show’s ongoing mission to combine tradition with innovation:
“We’re always the first major agricultural event on the calendar, and we love introducing fresh new experiences to visitors. Everyone adores alpacas, so we know this is going to be an absolute hit!”
