A quarter of a million pounds has been donated to the West Devon Safe Haven, a newly formed charity that helps Syrian refugees.

A number of refugee families from the ongoing Middle East conflict are currently living in West Devon. One family, who are living in Okehampton, that I met recently had lived in a refugee camp in Lebanon for four years with their two children before being brought to the UK during the summer.
Their children now attend a local school and both mum and dad are learning English. Some of the donated money will go towards a home in Tavistock for one of the families.

Angus Doulton of West Devon Safe Haven told The Moorlander that one family already lives in Tavistock with another family arriving during December and a fourth family coming to their new house in the New Year. We understand the £250,000 donation came from a couple who wish to remain anonymous.
