The Plume of Feathers, a historic Dartmoor pub that fell victim to the pandemic, is set to make a comeback. In a recent post on its Facebook page, the pub announced that while the challenge of reopening still remains, ‘phase one’ is underway as they have managed to get one of their fires going and have given the bar a thorough cleaning. The pub, located in Princetown and housed in the oldest building in the area dating back to 1785, boasts original features such as slate floors, wooden beams, and granite walls. Despite being a popular spot for visitors, the business was forced to close in 2021 due to COVID-19, which also led to the closure of the attached bunkhouse and campsite. However, after a prolonged hiatus, the pub is now being revived.
Many locals and visitors alike were left feeling heartbroken and bereft when the announcement was made that the pub would be closing permanently in June, 2021, after being unable to recover from the loss of business due to COVID-19. One local resident said: “I’ve got so many memories of this pub. It was where I came on my first trip to Dartmoor and a year later I moved to the area. I stayed in the pub whilst house-hunting and my best friend had his stag party here. It’s always been the base we come to. I can’t believe it’s not going to be there any more.”
The date of the reopening has yet to be announced but the owners have said they hope it will be open for business before the end of the summer.
