A man has died following a road traffic collision on the M5 near Willand on Thursday night, 18 September.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called at around 11.10pm about a collision involving four vehicles on the southbound carriageway near junction 28.

A man in his 30s from Plymouth was pronounced deceased at the scene, and his next of kin have been informed.

A man in his 40s from the Cullompton area has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

Four other people were taken to hospital for treatment, though none are believed to have life-threatening injuries.

Police said the fatal collision followed an earlier three-vehicle crash on the M5 near Willand first reported at around 9.50pm, in which one man was seriously injured.

The road has since reopened in both directions.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage is asked to contact police on 101 or via their website, quoting log 859 of 18 September.

Devon and Cornwall Police added on Facebook: "The M5 has now been reopened in both directions. Thank you to everyone for your patience in what has been a challenging time for all involved. Our thoughts are with the families of those injured and the man who has sadly died."
