West Devon Borough Council is inviting applications for the lease of the retail kiosk at Tavistock Bus Station on Plymouth Road.

The kiosk has remained empty since the expiry of a previous lease in January 2022, with previous owner Wendy Norman citing the pandemic and the lack of trade due to restrictions as her reasons for closure.

Now the council are offering a six-year lease on the kiosk, and say the opportunity would suit a local entrepreneur or small business looking to serve residents and commuters in the heart of Tavistock.

Successful applicants will also be responsible for opening and maintaining the adjacent covered waiting room each day.

While this area does not form part of the leased space, the tenant will be required to keep it clean, safe, and accessible to the public.

Cllr Neil Jory, Lead Member for Economy and Jobs at West Devon Borough Council, said: “The Tavistock Bus Station kiosk has long served a valued purpose, offering refreshments to passengers and passers-by. As we invite tenders for a new lease, our aim is to ensure this facility continues to support the local community by providing convenient access to hot and cold drinks and snacks.”

He added that the continued operation of the kiosk contributes to the experience of using public transport in Tavistock and supports the vitality of the town centre.

The minimum annual rent for the premises is £6,500, payable monthly in advance, and tenants will be responsible for utilities, business rates, and maintenance of the kiosk interior.

Applications must be submitted online by 5pm on Friday, 31 October 2025.
