Trago has confirmed a series of changes to its operations across Devon and Cornwall, including the closure of restaurant and leisure facilities at its Newton Abbot site, following consultation with staff.

The most significant changes affect Trago’s Staple Hill site in Newton Abbot, where the Staple Hill Restaurant Complex will close on 31 December 2025.

The company said the decision was made after reviewing the long-term viability of the operation.

In a statement, Trago Mills said that, where possible, staff have been redeployed elsewhere in the business, but seven employees will be made redundant as a result of the closure.

“It is with great regret that we confirm the closure of the Staple Hill Restaurant Complex at Trago Newton Abbot,” the company said.

“This decision follows a period of consultation and has been made with careful consideration of the long-term viability of the operation.”

Trago added that the Riverside Retreat coffee shop at the Newton Abbot site will remain open and will be expanded to offer additional seating and a wider range of food and drink.

The company has also confirmed the closure of Trago Leisure Park in Newton Abbot, again following consultation.

Trago said the leisure park is “no longer financially viable in its current form”, and five members of staff will be made redundant as a result.

However, Trago said the Steam Railway attraction will remain open for now while it explores options to keep it operating in the future.

The business said it recognises the railway’s importance to visitors and the local community and will provide further updates.

Elsewhere, Trago said its Falmouth store will remain open following consultation, although two departments will close, the product range will be reduced and 10 redundancies have been confirmed due to low footfall.

In Liskeard, The Keg and Kettle restaurant will close on 22 December 2025, with most staff redeployed, two redundancies, and a new Mill & Grind coffee shop set to open in January 2026 as part of wider efforts to return the business to profitability.
