Serious injury collision in Plymouth prompts police appeal after road now reopens

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a car in Plymouth.

Officers were called to Tothill Avenue at around 10pm on Wednesday, 4 February, after reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a white Audi, which left the scene.

The pedestrian, a local man in his 60s, suffered serious and potentially life-changing injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Tothill Avenue was closed while officers carried out investigations at the scene. 

Police have confirmed the road reopened at around 9am on Thursday, 5 February.

Following enquiries, the vehicle involved was later located nearby.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene, and driving while unfit through drugs. 

He remains in police custody.

Officers from the Roads Policing Team are continuing their enquiries and are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.

A police spokesperson said officers were grateful for the public’s patience while the road was closed to allow a full investigation to take place.
