It looks like a major highway but in fact it is the B3357 across Dartmoor at Merrivale, midway between Tavistock and Princetown.
Myles Pinkney, a twenty-year-old talented student, took this photograph one evening when, in fact there was very little traffic on the road but Myles used a very long exposure to make it look like a very busy road that crosses the River Walkham.
The hamlet of Merrivale is dominated by the spoil from the Merrivale granite quarry, formerly named as Tor Quarries which closed in 1997. The few buildings in the hamlet include the Dartmoor Inn and a few houses built for quarry workers.
There you will also find an ancient Bronze Age settlement with monuments to the south of the former quarry.
