Celebrating the love of gardening

Tavistock Ladies Gardening Club is celebrating a golden moment this month; 50 years since it was founded.
The club was launched in June 1973 by a few women with a shared enthusiasm for gardening and has flourished and grown over the years with a membership now of more than 100 women from Tavistock and the surrounding areas.
Club members meet once a month at Kings off Pixon Lane. "At our monthly meetings we enjoy talks from a range of garden experts," said chairperson Jan Gasper.
"Speakers we have welcomed recently are Claire Woodbine, who gave a very interesting introduction to the National Garden Scheme, and Emma Robertson who spoke on ‘Irises and how to create an instant pond’.
"Coming soon, we’re very much looking forward to Elizabeth Holman who is going to give us tips on ‘Rejuvenating a tired garden’.
"After every meeting, of course, we have time to meet and enjoy the company of fellow gardeners over a cup of tea or coffee.
"During the warmer months we have monthly visits to gardens throughout the South West, our latest excursion being to Glendurgan on the Helford River.
"We are a friendly, welcoming club and we hope it will continue to be appreciated by local garden enthusiasts."
Long time club member Sadie Glyn said: "I have been a member of the gardening club since approximately 1994 and was treasurer for 12 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a club member and have made many firm friendships.
"Club outings are always enjoyable and fun to go on. Over my many years of membership there have been numerous interesting speakers who nearly always fire us with enthusiasm."
