Snow chaos on A30 as jackknifed lorry halts traffic

Severe delays as snow and ice disrupt key Devon route

Snowfall has caused significant travel disruption in parts of Devon, with a jackknifed lorry bringing traffic to a standstill on the A30 eastbound.

National Highways confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that traffic remains held between the B3260 near Okehampton and the A382 at Whiddon Down.

In an update, the agency stated: “Traffic is still held eastbound on the #A30 between #B3260 (near #Okehampton) and #A382 (#WhiddonDown) following the snowfall in the area. National Highways Traffic Officers and Service Providers are working as quickly as possible to aid stranded vehicles.”

Earlier this morning at 8am, National Highways reported that a stranded lorry was blocking the route: “Traffic is currently held eastbound on the #A30 between #B3260 (near #Okehampton) and #A382 (#WhiddonDown) due to a stranded lorry following the snowfall in the area.”

The Moorlander understands that the stranded vehicle is a jackknifed lorry, which has caused significant delays as recovery teams work to clear the road.

Additionally, heavy snow has forced the closure of a large section of the A30 in both directions at Okehampton and westbound towards Cornwall.

Motorists are advised to check travel updates before heading out and exercise caution on icy roads.
