Bus operator offers £1 fares across Devon

Starting tomorrow, January 11, residents in North Devon and across the county can take advantage of £1 single fares on Stagecoach bus services.

The offer, which is part of the “Super Saturdays” initiative, is available on January 11, 18, and 25 and applies to all Stagecoach routes throughout Devon and Torbay.

The initiative is run by Stagecoach South West in partnership with the DevonBus Partnership, Devon County Council, and Torbay Council. 

It aims to provide an affordable travel option for residents to visit friends and family, explore the local area, or make other trips during January.

Stagecoach operates extensive bus services in North Devon and other parts of the county. The £1 single fares are available across all Stagecoach routes, including rural, urban, and coastal areas, making travel accessible for a wide range of journeys.

Stagecoach South West Managing Director Peter Knight said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this discount to Devon and Torbay residents thanks to our partnership with Devon County Council and Torbay Council. January can typically be a quiet month for people, so we hope by providing this discount it enables people to explore new places and try new things.”

Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said: “The cost-of-living crisis continues to be an issue so we're hoping that this initiative provides a little bit of help to bus passengers in Devon and Torbay at the start of the year. 

The initiative is funded through the Bus Service Improvement Plan, which aims to enhance public transport options in Devon and Torbay. 

Councillor Adam Billings, Cabinet Member for Pride in Place and Parking for Torbay Council, said: “The Super Saturdays initiative is a great opportunity to get around for less on Saturdays in January. Whether visiting family, one of our great towns or natural spaces, £1 single fares provide a simple and affordable travel option. We’d encourage everyone to use the bus on Saturdays this January.”

For travel outside the Super Saturdays promotion, the National Bus Fare Cap Scheme, in place from January 1, 2025, limits the cost of a single bus journey to £3. 

This cap applies to journeys across England.
