Officers said two men went to a property and offered to prune trees, telling the occupant that complaints had been made about branches overhanging a neighbouring property.

The occupant went into the garden with one of the men to discuss the work.

Officers said that a quantity of cash was later discovered to be missing from inside the house.

Devon and Cornwall Police are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Whitchurch Road area between midday and 1.30pm on 19 January to come forward.

Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who saw a silver pick-up or transit-style truck parked on the road around the same time.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said officers are trying to identify the two men involved.

Anyone with information, or dashcam footage that could help, is asked to contact police via the Devon and Cornwall Police website or by calling 101, quoting crime reference 50260015310.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers, either online or by calling 0800 555 111.
