The last remaining bank in The Broadway Shopping Centre, Plymstock, is set to close later this year due to a decline in customer visits over the years.

Lloyds Bank has announced it will close on November 4, 2025.

In a statement to The Moorlander, a Lloyds spokesperson said: “As many customers now choose to bank through their app or online, visits to our Plymstock branch have fallen over recent years. When the branch closes in November, customers can continue to manage their money online, by calling us, in person at Lloyds Royal Parade Plymouth branch. As well as at any other Lloyds or Halifax branch, or the local Post Office on Woodside Avenue.”

Lloyds also stated that 79 per cent of personal customers already use alternative banking methods, such as mobile, internet, or phone banking, in addition to other branches.

The bank emphasised that mobile banking provides 24/7 access, allowing customers to view and manage their money, pay in cheques, apply for finance, check their credit score, and contact customer support.

Lloyds also highlighted its use of the latest technology to keep customers' money secure, with app compatibility for screen readers.

The bank also stated that customers will still have the option to visit any Halifax branch for in-person banking, alongside online, mobile, and telephone banking.

They reminded customers that the nearby Post Office at 8 Woodside Avenue will continue to offer personal and business banking services, including cash withdrawals, cheque deposits, and other everyday transactions.

The closest free-to-use ATM is 0.26 miles away, with five others within a one-mile radius of the closing branch.

Lloyds stated that it is contacting customers to inform them of alternative local banking services.

MP for South West Devon, Rebecca Smith, expressed concern over the decision, stating:

“As the final bank on the Broadway, they have been a valuable community asset and essential for access to cash. Since the Post Office closed in 2021, it has been even more essential. Many constituents, including many elderly constituents, rely on this in-person service for their banking needs and cash.”

Ms Smith added that she would raise the issue in Parliament today (January 30) while discussing the future of local post offices.
