Okehampton Primary School, part of the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust, has announced the appointment of Mr Dan Marshall as its new Headteacher, beginning in September 2025. With more than 12 years of experience in education, Mr Marshall brings a strong background in leadership at large primary schools across London, coupled with a deep commitment to learning, inclusion, and community engagement.
The move marks both a professional and personal milestone for Mr Marshall, who recently relocated to the South West with his family - a region he has long aspired to live and work in.
“It is a privilege to lead Okehampton Primary on the next stage of its journey,” Mr Marshall wrote in a letter to families. “I want all our children to have a well-rounded education and to believe that anything is possible. Most importantly, I want them to want to come to school each day and feel happy and safe when they are here.”
Mr Marshall’s educational philosophy is rooted in both academic achievement and the development of the whole child. His approach prioritises emotional wellbeing, confidence-building, and a love for learning.
“One of the purposes of education is to open children’s eyes and hearts to the very best that has been thought and said,” he explained. “But success is more than academic – it’s also about helping children discover their passions, build confidence and flourish as individuals.”
Ahead of taking up the role, Mr Marshall has already spent time meeting with pupils and staff and praised the school’s nurturing and inclusive culture.
“Every child I met was friendly, polite and welcoming. Each of those children will be at the heart of the decisions we make moving forward.”
In a further show of his commitment to strong school-family relationships, Mr Marshall recently hosted a Headteacher’s Coffee Morning for parents and carers. The event provided an opportunity for him to share his vision and hear directly from the school community.
“I am committed to leading with care, clarity and collaboration. I look forward to listening, learning and building something special together with our school community.”
The Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, confident that Mr Marshall’s leadership will guide Okehampton Primary into a new chapter of growth and opportunity.
