Rowcroft Hospice invites adventurers to trek the Sahara in 2027

Rowcroft Hospice is inviting adventure-seekers to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime fundraising challenge by trekking across the Sahara Desert in 2027.

The long-weekend trek will take place from 10 to 15 March 2027 and will see participants journey across one of the world’s largest and most dramatic deserts, raising vital funds to support Rowcroft’s end-of-life care for patients and families across South Devon.

The trek will lead participants through the ever-changing landscapes of the Sahara, culminating at the summit of the Chigaga Dunes to watch the sunrise over the desert. Trekkers will experience sweeping views stretching as far as the eye can see, with the volcanic Anti-Atlas Mountains forming a striking backdrop.

Guided by traditional Berbers, participants will also have the chance to experience Moroccan culture and the remoteness and solitude of the desert environment.

The fully supported trek is open to people of all experience levels, whether seasoned adventurers or those taking on their first major challenge, and offers the opportunity to push personal limits while supporting a local charity.

“The Sahara Trek is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to challenge yourself, immerse yourself in one of the world’s most iconic landscapes, and make a real difference for families in our community facing life-limiting illnesses,” said Molly Billingsley, Challenges Fundraiser for Rowcroft Hospice. “We’ll be with you every step of the way, supporting and inspiring you to make the most of this unforgettable adventure. Join Team Rowcroft, push your limits, experience the Sahara - together, we’ll conquer the desert!”

To find out more, Rowcroft Hospice is hosting an information evening on Thursday 5 February 2026, from 7pm to 9pm, at Rowcroft Hospice, Rainbow House, Ella’s Gardens, Avenue Road, Torquay. The session will give potential trekkers the chance to explore the full itinerary, learn how their involvement will support local families, ask questions, meet fellow participants and pick up fundraising tips and ideas.

Spaces for the information evening are limited and early registration is encouraged. Further details about the trek and how to secure a place can be found at www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk/sahara-trek.

Rowcroft Hospice supports around 2,500 people each year across South Devon, providing specialist care and support for those with life-limiting illnesses and their families, both at home and in its inpatient unit in Torquay.
