Ford and stepping stones actross Moor Brook [John Lucas]
Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council is inviting local residents to take part in the old folk tradition of The Beating the Bounds walk on Wednesday 20 August 2025.
Departing from Meldon Village Hall at 10am, the event will involve a strenuous 11 mile walk across high open moorland.
The council has warned that the walk should not be undertaken by anyone not capable of finishing it.

At the start there will be some refreshments and breakfast rolls available for purchase from 9am which will be provided by Okehampton Carnival committee.
The council has said that donations are welcome to North Dartmoor Search and Rescue who will be attending the event and will have a table with information and merchandise.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own walking gear, waterproofs, as well as a mug or beaker for refreshments around halfway.
A pasty is also available for everyone at this point.
There will be a walk leader and a back marker, and friendly dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times.
The council has stated that there is no transport provided, so any participants will require to get to Meldon and back from the finish at Halstock Corner (SX602936).
