Bovey man of the match Dave Rowe
It has been an outstanding first month in the South West Peninsula League season, with the top eight separated by just six points.
Bridport lead the way but Bovey Tracey are just a point behind and have a game in hand. A 3-0 defeat of Middlezoy Rovers, thanks to a goal from new signing Dave Rowe and an Ollie Aplin brace. Bridport, meanwhile, trounced Teignmouth 7-0.
A surprise package in third is Torrington, who struggled badly last term, but have picked up five wins from their opening seven games. Jack Sargent notched a brace and there was a goal for Tom Davey in their latest 3-1 triumph over lowly Bishops Lydeard.
Newton Abbot Spurs come next in fourth and they dismantled bottom club Axminster Town with a 7-0 thumping. The goals came from Toby Pullman (2), Chris Harvey, Owen Green, Toby Hard, Tom Lobb and Fin Pearse.
Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police have made a solid start in fifth, securing a 2-0 success at surprise strugglers Okehampton Argyle, thanks to a pair of penalties from Saul Vanes. Stoke’s trip to a dangerous Ilfracombe Town could be the top fixture in this weekend’s round of games.
